Welcome to Vang Vieng.

We left at 7am and didn't arrive till 1:30pm after being cramped up on a very uncomfortable and rickety bus provided by Stray Asia.

A look out view on the way.
The new people on the bus were really nice, especially the tour leader, Shaun, we loved him. He is good-looking and funny, double whammy. Caitlin shared a triple room with us because we have grown to love her so much. As soon as we got there, we gathered our stuff together and headed for the river to do the infamous tubing.
We were told the tubing would be a disappointment because it has all been closed down. It used to be the only reason anyone came here, but the government had to shut it all down as so many people died. Tourists got really drunk at all of the bars that reeled you in by throwing a bottle on a rope for you to grab, and going on the wild water park they had built, that so many died. On average 33 a year died. Many of them were from New Zealand, and so they threatened to remove all their aid to Laos unless they shut it down. Now, you can only go tubing, but there are three bars along the way. (Read this, http://www.theage.com.au/travel/holiday-type/budget/partys-over-for-backpacker-mecca-20130115-2cr95.html )
I mean, if you had been there before, you’d probably think it was totally shit, but since we never experienced what it was like before, we actually had the best time ever. At the first bar we attempted to play volleyball but we sucked so much. Jonas was taking it seriously until he realised we were all rubbish and it would never work so we just played keep it up in a circle instead haha.

Off we go!

Caitlin and I at the first bar.
At the second bar, it was mental, so much fun. I took a few videos I’ll upload later. Just lots of people playing beer pong, drinking games, volleyball, basketball from a net that sprays water everywhere and just everyone being really drunk. We spent a lot of time there, drinking, playing games etc. Gweynth started crying because a guy she had intercourse with in Luang Prabang told her he would share a room with her in Vang Vieng but he never replied to her e-mails once she had booked the room, she saw him whilst we were there and he was so rude to her and she was heartbroken. It was really awkward because we didn’t really know what to do.

Olivia and I pretty drunk!
Anyway, at the third bar, I had so much fun playing football with the guys drunk in the mud, but then they pushed me over and rolled me in it. I was a total mess. One girl actually asked if she could take my picture because I was so muddy haha. It was great, I just had more lao vodka and 7up. Yum. We then ventured off to the end point, not realising how far away it was so lost 2 pounds of our deposit, oh well! It was a calm sail and I had a good chat with a guy about travelling along the way.

When we got back, we wanted to get showered as quickly as possible to make it out for dinner with the rest of the crew, so we all showered together haha. The dinner we got was cheap but pretty disgusting, it was a good laugh though as got free cocktail each and played drinking games, getting to know the rest of the group. Afterwards we went to an Irish bar that was heaving. I got a free t-shirt with my cocktail reading ‘whos your paddy’. Caitlin got up and sung with the band which was cool, she was really good. I met some entertaining people, had a great chat with the tour leader, drank lots more etc.
Afterwards, when the curfew called, we went to this Lao local nightclub.  It was just so surreal and so much fun. I was dancing mentally with a load of local lao girls, they were teaching me there dance and it was hysterical. They were just so much fun and I laughed and smiled so much. I just… I can’t explain the atmosphere and how amazing it was.
When I finally got back around 3:30am, Jonas was in the lobby as he had been locked out of his room. His 15 year old brother who he was travelling with had received the holiday as a confirmation present but they had spent most the time getting drunk and he was talking to girls twice his age haha. Rooky error by his parents. Who sends a 15 year old with his 25 year old brother to Laos?! Anyway, because none of the other girls had come home, I had a triple room to myself so he came to stay with me instead.
