Campo Grande.

In our hungover state we grabbed breakfast at the hostel and made our way via taxi to the airport to catch our flight to Campo Grande via São Paulo. Made in the nick of time. First flight was only an hour, got a nice and basic ham and cheese sandwich and I was in a great semi drunk mood listening to paramore and being too embarrassing for matts liking.

Scarlett's quick tip of the day - always reserve seats at the very back of the plane as those who don't reserved are filled from the front back, so I usually end up getting three seats to myself if the flight isn't full - but with Matt, it meant I just had an extra seat between us.

Second flight took two hours and felt much longer/ tiring, but far better than the 28 hour bus alternative... When we landed we got a taxi to Santa Clara hostel, but the driver had no idea where he was going so took us on a long and painful detour, cost us £10 for the taxi. The hostel is really out of the way and so we didn't do anything for the rest of the day. I went on a walk to find a place that serves pizza, but it didn't open till 7pm. The area was very scary, and in that moment I was glad I usually have Matt walking with me! He was busy sulking over his results from University, so I thought I'd give him a break and go to the supermarket instead. Ham and cheese sandwiches for dinner and an early night... Very uneventful day.

The Campo Grande Santa Clara hostel is very awkward, I felt like I was intruding on some family home (which it is...). But nobody spoke English/ showed us round the place. I didn't know what we were and weren't allowed to use in the kitchen, and I had nobody to ask about tours to the pantanal. The room was very big and spacious though and had 4 beds despite us ordering a simple private double room.

Going to the pantanal tomorrow hopefully.
